Consulting work
Simon I have worked in computer science for over thirty years in academia, government, and start-ups. I work with large software companies, infrastructure providers, and start-ups on projects that make use of sensors and data analytics, helping organisations understand what AI- and data-driven processes and technologies can bring to their operations and how to choose and deploy them successfully.
Trained as a scientist and engineer, I always views problems as systems to be built: what do we need to know, how do we collect that data, how do we make use of what we learn, and how do we embed this learning into robust, scalable, and long-lived solutions? I’ve gained huge experience in strategic planning and systems design, as well as with a huge range of technology ranging from mature to cutting-edge.
I am a Chartered Engineer and Fellow of the British Computer Society, as well as being a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.
